Yorkshire Tour 1988

Shene toured in Yorkshire on a regular basis in the 1980's, playing teams such as Old Wheelwrights, Heckmondwike Old Boys, Rowley Hill Labour Club and Huddersfield Amateurs.

Thanks to Phil Warne for these snaps taken on the Easter 1988 Tour.

Desparately short of players for the tour, Phil Warne recruits some illegal aliens loitering on a street corner, outside the Derby Arms (where else!)

In the good old days, touring with Shene was a riot of fun and laughter

Southgate and Young try to retain some shred of credibility by distancing themeselves from Timmy Mallet

The team are amused when they finally realise it wasn't Timmy Mallet, but Phil Warne all along, who was skippering the side

Having spent too long away from home, Warney attempts to have sex with his duvet...

...Nick Crisp, too is missing his 'creature comforts' and seeks solace in the arms of Gary Young

Shene players didn't get out much in those days and few were allowed to cross main roads on their own. Luckily, worldy-wise Paul de Jong was on hand to show how it was done. Note Nick Crisp trying to pass himself off as a Northener by wearing a flat cap.

Shene confirm their status as 'Southern Jessies'

Simon Jarrett spots the weapons of mass destruction

In a pose eerily prescient of the shameful scenes at Abu Ghraib prison, the Shene squad give Sadaam (front row) a vivid warning of what will happen to his henchmen 15 years later
